La Casa Di Ele

Cave Toscanini was spacious, spotless, and simply astonishing. The emotional shower was a whole experience! Raffaele greeted us with coffee and really useful tips about the town. We loved the breakfast too, especially the baking from mamma. The location couldn't be better. Hope to return!

The homemade cakes and pastries waiting at breakfast were delicious, and our hosts were warm and enthusiastic. Erasmo gave us a detailed rundown of Matera's must-see spots along with ideas for restaurants and local food and wine. La Casa di Ele was close to everything we wanted to visit. We had such a lovely night that it felt like we'd stayed a week. A special place in the heart of an ancient city, and we hope to return someday.

La Casa di Ele sits around the corner from Piazza Vittorio Veneto, with easy taxi access and a handy base for exploring the sassi and Matera's winding streets. Our room was roomy and the bed comfortable, so we slept well after days out. We stayed five days in October and were glad we did. Raffaele, one of the brothers who run this family B&B, gave us a remarkably thorough orientation when we arrived, covering sights, restaurants and more. His brother Erasmo was just as helpful at breakfast, explaining the generous spread, including treats their mother had made. We appreciated how much pride they take in sharing their family home and some of its history with guests. My wife Sally and I had a wonderful stay.

The room could use its space better. There was an extra full-size bed for an adult, but still a lot of wasted room. Having breakfast right outside the room wasn't very comfortable.
