The breakfast on the lovely terrace, with its amazing view of Matera, was excellent. Claudia, who helps at breakfast, is lovely and makes great cappuccinos. Claudio and Geovany were responsive and tried to sort out the issues. We also enjoyed our stay in Matera and in Corte, and it's incredible to sleep in one of the caves in the Sassi. Still, the location comes with some practical drawbacks. The room we had, the “Deluxe Superior Room for 5,” didn't have AC. Being a cave kept it cooler, but it could still get hot in summer, even though some other rooms have AC. The room also wasn't as nice as the photos and description on Booking suggested. I booked thinking it would be a hotel in Matera, and that wasn't the case. They could make their descriptions and pictures more objective. It would also help to explain the route more clearly after booking. The confirmation email mentions a typical Sassi pathway with stairs up and down, but the video sent the day before gave a different impression. Don't bring large luggage: getting from the parking garage to the room with it is a challenge. We also would have preferred real cups or glasses instead of plastic or paper ones.

We were fortunate to get an upgrade from the lovely owners, moving into the studio, a spacious cave room with a nice shower and toilet. The woman who looked after us was so sweet and made coffee for guests every day, while keeping the place clean and tidy. It's right in the middle of everything, making it a great base for exploring the sassi. Marta also gave us really helpful suggestions for where to eat.

A clean room in a nice place, and the location was good. Breakfast had no choices, so if sweet pastries aren't your thing, it's better to get something else. The walk from the drop-off point isn't far. Just be aware that the rooms have a window, not a balcony.

I arranged the stay with the owner by email, and booking was easy and informal. A text with a video helped me find B&B La Corte Vetere among Matera's winding streets. I was cycling around Puglia and could leave my bicycle safely in the locked courtyard. My room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, with modern amenities in this old part of town. The internet was fast and reliable, and the courtyard views were stunning. Breakfast was pleasant, the host was polite and kind, and she makes a good coffee. I enjoyed both Matera and my stay here, and highly recommend La Corte Vetere.

Angela was lovely and accommodating. We thought the hotel was beautiful and really enjoyed staying there. We only wished we had more time.
