Livingstone

Everything is an easy walk from this ideally located property. Miriam makes the stay even better as a host, and all the little details are lovely. We’d feel privileged to stay here on our next visit. The great reviews are well deserved, and I imagine she books up quickly in the busy season.

We stayed in the «New York» room, which has its own terrace. It felt brand new and was so clean. Myriam is a gem, really lovely, and does everything she can to make you feel comfortable in her beautiful place. Centro storico is right around the corner, and breakfast is included and great.

We had low expectations of Livingstone B&B after seeing its very high rating and all the praise for Miriam, but our two-night stay in June 2024 went far beyond what my wife and I expected. Livingstone is bright, modern, and impeccably clean, and the photos match what you actually see. Miriam clearly takes pride in the place and cares about giving every guest the best experience she can. There are three guest rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. We saw all of them, and they’re massive, especially compared with hotel rooms in Italy. Ours was New York, on the top floor, while the other two are London and Paris. We had privacy and quiet, plus a private balcony area with a sun lounger. It’s less than a three-minute walk to the town square, with two right turns and then down the hill. From there you get magnificent views down to Matera’s Old Town historic area. If my wife and I ever return to Matera, we’ll absolutely stay at Livingstone again.

The rooms were modern, and the landlady was lovely, attentive, and always ready to help. It’s a great location for exploring Matera on foot, with a parking lot within walking distance. Everything else was perfect. The hard part was the long flight of stairs with our luggage. Pulling two loaded 28" spinners, each weighing 23 kilos, all the way up without scraping the walls was tiring and challenging.
