The location is well outside the area of interest, the sassi, so you'll need a car. It is much cheaper than any of the hotels in the sassi, though. The rooms are the standout: very large, completely new and clean, and built like caves with big stones. Each room has a balcony, and there's a pool at the hotel. Breakfast is basic.

We were put in a room across the yard from the event hall, and nobody warned us there would be loud music until 2am. We complained to staff, but it ruined our stay. When we asked for compensation, we were offered a €15 discount on our next visit, which felt disrespectful to customers. The facilities were great, but management was rubbish. It felt like greed was driving things. Avoid.

The pool is a nice place to unwind, though bar service depends on whether the bartender is available. The mood is very relaxed. Rooms are nicely designed but a little dark, and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is enough, though it's not a full continental buffet. The hotel seems to be hidden away in an odd industrial area at first, but once inside it's quiet and well curated, with the charm and architecture of Matera. There is a big supermarket two minutes away on foot and a few other restaurants nearby. I'd recommend having a car for the city. The taxi they offered felt like a clear scam, charging €20 for a 10-minute ride, which we know isn't the usual rate. Still, we had a pleasant stay and look forward to returning to this little oasis.

The room was peaceful, just across from reception, with its door opening onto the patio where breakfast was served. We didn't hear a thing. The pool had a stunning view over the Matera landscape and was a perfect place to relax. Andrea, Enzo, and Lucia were warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout, and every restaurant they recommended was fantastic. Thank you for an unforgettable visit. When we first drove up to Masseria Santa Lucia, the industrial surroundings made us think the map was wrong. It seemed an unlikely place for a masseria, but once through the gates, we found a private oasis.

The Deluxe Suite was newly decorated and beautiful, with high ceilings, a lovely bathroom and luxurious shower, and a comfortable bed. The pool looked just as stunning, with modern loungers. The accommodation itself is very nice, though our stay at Masseria Santa Lucia was only okay. The welcome was unfriendly. The woman who received us clearly wasn't in the mood to greet guests warmly. The rest of the staff were nicer, but not as good as at other places we stayed in Italy, where we paid much less. I asked twice through the booking platform how to arrange the guided Matera tour listed in the services, but got no reply, although they used the same channel to contact me about check-in. Breakfast is served in a pleasant patio, but in mid-August it was so hot that we were sweating before we'd finished eating. The hotel is also in the middle of an industrial area, which doesn't make for a welcoming atmosphere. Luckily we had a car and could easily visit Matera. Otherwise I think we'd have needed a taxi, as we didn't see dining options at the hotel itself. Given the fairly high price, these things took away from the experience.
