MH Matera Hotel

The wifi was poor, but nearly everything else worked really well. It's close to the city centre, with secure parking, big rooms, comfortable beds and a clean, nice bathroom. The bar is pleasant and breakfast was very good. Highly recommend.

The room was cozy, clean and nice, though much too hot. I couldn't adjust the heat, and it woke me up in the middle of the night. I booked especially for the spa, only to find it cost extra, which hadn't been mentioned on Booking. Parking was good, and the hotel is new and well equipped, with breakfast and lots of facilities, but everything comes at an additional charge. Breakfast was good, though coffee wasn't on the table and I had to ask for it.

The hotel is modern and the room was fine, but our sheets were dirty and had to be changed when we arrived. The pool felt like Benidorm, loud and a bit dirty. The staff were horrible, the complete opposite of welcoming. We understand Italian and heard the breakfast man say “for ****s sake” when we ordered coffee. I didn't see one receptionist smile. There are much better options in the area, and I wouldn't recommend this place.

Dinner at the hotel was excellent. The beef entree didn't look like much, but it was surprisingly well seasoned and perfectly cooked, served piping hot. The room was spacious and the cleanest of the four hotels of a similar level we stayed at on this trip. Breakfast could use more variety. The one strange issue was being told a rude “no” when I asked to exchange my towel, which I've never experienced at a hotel before. You also need a swimming cap to use the pool. Who brings one on vacation or a business trip?
