Sassi di Matera bed&breakfast

We booked that afternoon but got no arrival instructions from the host. When we reached the building around 8pm, he said we were late and told us to call another number. The person who answered insulted us, and we were never let into the building. Neighbors opened the gate and tried to help, but the host did nothing. We were stranded in a new city with both phones out of battery. I said the behavior was unfair and that we'd leave a negative review unless they honored the reservation. I messaged the host, and got threats in response. Before we could report them to booking.com, the host reported us for misbehavior, though we did nothing wrong. This business should NOT be existing!!

The location was perfect, the room was wonderful, and breakfast was delicious. A perfect bed and breakfast.

There's something special about this place!

The good points were the spacious, beautiful bathroom and the location. It's not far from the center, so you can get around on foot, and Matera is really beautiful. The price was good overall, and there's a machine for making tea or coffee, though breakfast isn't included. The room was less appealing than I expected. Instead of characteristic exposed stone, it had modern but old furnishings, almost no wardrobe, damaged walls, especially on the ceiling, and some mold. It could use a fresh coat of paint. We barely saw the owners apart from talking on the phone; once we paid, I felt they showed complete disinterest in customers. I'd advise them to pay a little more attention. There's no parking, but if you're lucky you might find free parking nearby. Thanks.
