Sassi House Matera

The hosts were always friendly and ready to help, and the value for money was excellent. It's one of the best B&Bs in Matera, in a beautiful spot just a few steps from both the historic center and the famous Sassi. Highly recommended!

It's centrally located in Matera, which makes it an ideal place to stay, but the bathroom needs attention. It's small, the shower curtain doesn't keep water in very well, there are no towel hooks, and the cabinet above the sink is so high you could hit your head and hurt yourself. I'd replace it with a mirror and add a cabinet under the sink. Breakfast was minimal, just coffee and croissants from the bar. Since you're out and about so much, a bigger breakfast would be needed.

The owners did respond quickly when we reported problems, but there were so many issues and they didn’t seem concerned about how they affected guests. The apartment had no parking, the living room air conditioner leaked onto the floor, and using the oven cut the power every three or four minutes. Breakfast was included, but it felt very standard, with no real focus on fresh local products. We’d found the B&B on Tripadvisor and the photos, description, and booking call had all made it sound excellent. The place has potential, and the management could do more to bring it up to that level.

The owner was very kind and shared tips for seeing the city. Breakfast was coffee and croissants at the place right next door, and the property was spotless and in a great location. We couldn’t have asked for more.
