Un Rubino fra i Sassi

Luciano made our one-night stay especially memorable. He’s warm, friendly, and so easy to like, with a real sense of Italian hospitality. We hit it off quickly, and leaving felt like saying goodbye to an old friend we hope to see again. The home itself gave us the cave-like Matera experience we wanted, built into the mountain, without giving up modern comforts or paying a ridiculous price. It’s beautifully maintained and well equipped, with an old-world atmosphere that made it easy to imagine life in ancient times. It never felt too rustic. Just right.

The apartment is spacious, modern, and comfortable, laid out over two levels with a bathroom on each floor. You can easily walk to historic Matera from this central spot. Being downtown does bring some noise. When we stayed in February 2020, there was construction next door, and traffic was noisy as well. Parking is on the street. The host will find you a nearby space when you first arrive, but if you move the car, you'll need to find another spot yourself.

Right on the edge of Sassi, this is a perfect spot. There’s no air conditioning, but the thick walls kept things quite comfortable.

Just steps from the city center, the vacation rental is very well located. Mr. Luciano is kind, hospitable, and extremely helpful. We’ll be back for sure. Highly recommended!
