Hotel Hobbit

Breakfast was croissants with a choice of jams and Nutella, and the rooms have air conditioning. The drawers seemed a little moldy. After checkout, a man dropped us at the metro for free. It cost 50 euros to get a taxi from the airport, which is quite far away. The free shuttle isn't available unless you stay at least two nights, and that should be advertised. Decent enough for one night.

There was always a parking space available in the garage under the building, with a porter opening the gate at night. The grounds are gated. The staff were very friendly, the rooms clean, and the owner was often in the lounge, where the atmosphere was lovely. I stayed at the Hobbit hotel in October 2015 and got a spacious room with a balcony and a nice view of the city quarter for a very good price. Breakfast was generous by Italian standards, with caffè, capuccino, and fresh cornetti. I recommend it if you're after somewhere quiet and relaxing on the outskirts of Naples.

I needed a basic place for one night because I had an early flight the next morning, and this hotel was close to the airport. The neighborhood isn't great, and I wouldn't choose to spend the evening there. Since I had a car, I could drive to shops and restaurants, then head to the airport early. The room was clean and comfortable, not luxurious, but luxury wasn't what I needed. The hotel clerks were helpful, and I knew enough Italian to get by. The underground parking was tight and a little tricky to use, though that's typical for Italy. The location on Google Maps is wrong. The address is Via Umbria 5, 80017 Melito di Napoli, at Latitude 40°54'39.24"N and Longitude 14°14'14.17"E.
