Hotel Villa Freiheim

We asked to store our bicycles with access to electricity, and they sorted that out perfectly. Parking worked well too. The care and real hospitality in this house are clear, and it feels like a personal place rather than a mass-market operation. It made for a relaxing week in Merano. The villa district is lovely and very quiet, yet the location makes getting around easy on foot or by bike. There’s also a bus stop nearby, so a car isn’t necessary. Breakfast has plenty of variety, caters to individual requests, and brings a few surprises. I was interested to see the vegan buffet as well.

Breakfast is a small spread, but the ingredients are high quality, and there are some special vegan choices. The family and staff were always around to answer questions or offer suggestions, and they made a real effort to make us comfortable. This was our first visit to Merano, and we felt looked after from the moment we arrived at Villa Freiheim. We can easily imagine returning.

The pool area was a lovely place to unwind after a day seeing Merano, and it was very well cared for. We also enjoyed the town, with its clean streets, charming architecture, and mix of Mediterranean character and Alpine surroundings. At Hotel Villa Freiheim, the rooms were spotless, well maintained, and tastefully furnished. The whole hotel has a warm feel, with thoughtful details throughout. We were greeted warmly, and the staff stayed friendly and attentive, making sure we were comfortable. We had a very positive stay from beginning to end and would gladly return to Villa Freiheim.

The host family and the woman serving breakfast made me feel more at home than anywhere else. Ten points wouldn’t cover it! Breakfast runs until 10:30, with the usual bread rolls, cold cuts and cheese, plus homemade sweet and savory dishes. The sweet bread pudding and eggplant or pumpkin with pesto were delicious, and there’s good organic juice each day. My single room was lovely, and there was lots of useful information waiting in it. The area is beautiful and a short walk from the center. Trauttmansdorff Castle is walkable too, or you can take the bus for free with the guest card. I also tried the massage service in the house across the street and highly recommend it. I had a detox massage and a Sina massage, both among the best treatments I’ve had. There’s no balcony in the rooms, but there are nice places to sit around the outdoor pool. There isn’t an elevator, and my room was on the third floor. They mention this at booking, and it wasn’t a problem for me. I loved my stay and will be back.
