I really enjoyed breakfast at the hotel. The guy working there was respectful, and it’s a good hotel.

The staff were kind, cheerful, and always ready to help, and the food was astronomical. Our room was very clean and had everything we needed. It also had a terrace with a great mountain view, a rare treat at a hotel. We had a truly comfortable, wonderful stay.

We went for a birthday dinner, and the service was a solid 5. Beforehand I called to ask if they could make the table look nice, and they really did, with a festive setting and a garland above it. I also asked about a gluten-free dessert with candles after the main course. They didn’t have one, but the chef made us a rich, delicious gluten-free cake just for us. The pizza was delicious and the location cozy. Location: 4.5, pizza: 4.5.

Dirk at the Hotel Cavallino reception deserves a special mention. I’d left a backpack with our passports on the train to Bolzano and had no clear idea how to get it back. At first Dirk didn’t seem to have an answer either, but a few minutes later he was on the phone. After about 15 minutes, he told me the bag had been found and arranged for me to meet an incoming train in Bolzano to reclaim it. He’d also organized for the police to meet me at the station and verify it was mine. His solution worked perfectly, and I was very impressed by the effort he made for us. Thanks, Dirk! That experience certainly left me with a favorable impression, but the rest of our stay was pleasant in every way too. The hotel is directly across the road from the Merano-Maia Bassa train station, with a bus stop right outside and a bike path leading into Merano. Our room was clean and comfortable, the restaurant food was tasty, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was a great place to stay in Merano.
