Claudio runs the farm and hosts guests at this agriturismo in the hills, with a wonderful view across the region, as far as the sea and Croatia. He serves breakfast in the morning and pasta in the evening, so you can simply relax in nature by the beautiful pool. The rooms are very clean and accessible. Sometimes they let outside visitors use the pool, though, and without them it would have been a very quiet, peaceful place. If you’re lucky, you might hear a wolf howling at night.

Claudio really looks after his guests, and you feel welcome here. It’s a peaceful place with lovely views, perfect if you love nature. One small downside is that the invited day guests at the pool can get loud. Even so, it wouldn’t put me off coming back to this beautiful place.

We were so happy with our time at “Il Pavone Errante”. Up on the hill, the setting is special, with wonderful sunsets and a calm, soulful feeling. Getting to Via Ciola means driving along some fairly bumpy winding roads, but the surroundings make it worthwhile. The infinity pool looks out toward the mountains, and the guest rooms are sparkling clean, with a contemporary design that still feels local. It’s an ecologically mindful Airbnb, and the Wi-Fi only works in some spots, which turned out to be a nice chance to unplug. Claudio is charming and reliable, and handled everything from check-in to local tips. He speaks Italian, which made the trip feel more authentic than the usual tourist English. Don’t miss his restaurant recommendations. We loved dinner at Pacos, though with the little terrace in front of the room, takeaway or a meal we made ourselves would have worked too. Breakfast was homemade pie from his mother and artisanal cookies. If you prefer a savory breakfast, you may want to bring something along.

The views across the Emilia Romagna landscapes and the lovely swimming pool make this an amazing getaway. Il Pavone Errante is one of the best places I’ve ever visited, with such a great atmosphere. Claudio is a kind, wonderful host who’s happy to make reservations wherever you want to go. He and his wife can also make homemade pasta or put together platters of ham and cheese. Each morning they serve fresh breakfast, with a different pie every day. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
