Hotel Messenion

Parking is difficult to find, so keep that in mind. The rooms are beautiful, and the beds are so comfortable you’ll fall asleep as soon as you lie down. Breakfast can be prepared to suit a special diet or similar needs. Right in the city centre, it’s easy to walk around town and shop for the things you like. A superb place to stay.

The room change came in the middle of the night after I reported that the shower wouldn’t drain and left my feet covered in dirt. Packing everything up again while exhausted was awful, and I was still drained the next morning. The hotel was dirty and untidy from the start, and the shower situation was disgusting. When I told the receptionist on August 25 that I was unhappy, he didn’t seem to care. He just grumbled under his breath, with no empathy or concern. That rude response made a terrible stay even worse. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

The air conditioning was a nightmare. With it on, I couldn’t get any sleep, but turning it off wasn’t an option in the heat. The hotel itself was solid, breakfast was okay, and the central location was great. It was odd to read that parking was included, then find out they meant public parking. You had to walk to the next tabacci the following morning to buy a parking ticket.

We were exhausted, both mentally and physically, after walking from our original hotel, and finally thought we had a room at Hotel Messenion. We’d arrived very late from the ferry to Messina and discovered the booking at another place was wrong. The person working at that hotel had kindly called around to nearly every place and found only one that said it had a room available. But when we got to Hotel Messenion, someone yelled through the door that they were fully booked. We explained that the other hotel had just called and sent us because a room was available, but he shouted at us again. We kept asking him to help and at least speak with us face to face, and he wouldn’t. We weren’t random late arrivals. We’d been directed there, and the way we were treated was deplorable. Spend your money elsewhere.
