I've edited this after the owner's reply. The view over the Messina waters and mainland is lovely, and the shared interior has lots to look at, from unusual objects and antiques to a piano. The rooms need maintenance: junction boxes are left open, tap aerators are missing, and floor trim is pulling away from the walls. The paint is fresh, though, so I guess that's meant to make everything fine. The owner says, "BREAKFAST IS NO LONGER PROVIDED." There isn't even a biscuit. If you've stayed here before, be aware of the change, since we were expecting the good breakfast they apparently used to serve. You'll need to book elsewhere if you want breakfast. There's an industrial coffee machine, but the espresso it makes is very average. It's convenient for the owners, and included in the room price, so apparently that makes it "complimentary." Maybe people in Naples think it's great, but plenty of people elsewhere drink espresso too, and that doesn't make it good. They don't even provide fresh milk, which isn't much to ask for. Come for the view, but bring your own food and drink.

The hosts were friendly and very accommodating, and they speak English. The garden is big, and the setting is quiet and private, with fantastic views. I couldn't have asked for a better place in Messina.

The owners are wonderful and into art, especially music. From the elevated location, you get a great view of the "Stretto," and it's a relief to find someone in Sicily who speaks English. One of the best places I've stayed in Messina, and highly recommended as a base for exploring the island.
