Hotel Fioralba

We stayed during the Olympics and were very happy with how it went. The hotel was great, the staff were friendly, and the prices were reasonable.

We booked a room for the day of the Bruce Springsteen concert, which was later postponed. After hearing that, we emailed to ask about cancelling with a refund. The hotel first said its policy was no refunds and pointed out that we'd booked through Booking.com rather than directly with them. Booking.com told us by phone that a refund could be possible if we submitted a cancellation request through them, as long as the hotel agreed to it. When we explained that to the hotel, they replied that they'd accept the request once it came through, which we understood to mean we'd be refunded. We were willing to visit Milan even without the concert, but based on that reply we decided to cancel. Booking.com then confirmed they'd sent the request to the hotel. For the next two days, we heard nothing. When we called, the hotel said the reservation had been cancelled but that there would be no refund. They told us to email any complaints because they didn't speak English very well and didn't have time to talk by phone. We emailed again, repeating what Booking.com had told us and reminding them of their promise to accept the cancellation and return our money. They went back to citing their policy. If they'd simply stuck to saying there'd be no refund, we'd have gone to Milan and used the room we'd paid for. Instead, they said they'd accept the cancellation, then cancelled our reservation without notice and refused the refund request. That left them with an empty room they could rent out again while keeping our money. They also charge double when there's a concert at the nearby stadium, but say a postponed concert isn't their problem. My advice to anyone visiting Milan is to avoid this hotel at all costs.

My stay at Hotel Fioralba was fantastic. Carmine, the night receptionist, was especially warm and helpful, and gave us some great recommendations. One was kappou ninomiya, a Japanese restaurant that turned out to be really good. Thanks to Carmine for being so professional, and to Hotel Fioralba for the wonderful hospitality. We'll definitely come back.
