L'isola di Romy - Guest House

Everything was clean, and the location was great, within walking distance of food, a 24-hour grocery store, the metro, and trains. The beds were on the softer side and the rooms were good, but there were only two bathrooms for up to five people in one room, with many more rooms in the hostel. The area is a local hangout in the evenings and at night, so street noise carries into the rooms.

It's clean and close to Garibaldi Station, which makes it okay if you have an early train. That's about all the apartment has going for it, and I wouldn't stay more than one night in Milan. The name is misleading: there's a bed but no breakfast. Drinking water comes from a small dispenser that doesn't cool it, so the water is very warm and you don't know how long it's been sitting there. The only other source is the shared bathroom, which isn't a great place to get water. There's a kitchen in the apartment, but it's locked. The owner isn't there, so you're staying in someone's apartment with strangers and no host. That could feel uncomfortable, and potentially unsafe. If I were a woman traveling alone, I'd think twice, since you don't know who else will be there and nobody is around to keep an eye on things. It cost €103 for two of us for one night, which seems very expensive for so few facilities.

The room and toilet were clean, and the mini fridge was a nice extra. There was free instant coffee and tea, though no breakfast, so I wouldn't call it a B&B. We had a bad night because of noisy guests at 2 AM, banging building gates whenever people came and went, and lots of noise from upstairs. As a light sleeper, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Also, search for ‼️Via Toce 11‼️, not l‘Isola di Romy. The pinned Google Maps location is wrong, shown at the street corner when it's not there. There’s no key for the entrance gate either. We only got in because someone happened to be leaving and let us through.

The owner refused to reimburse us and gave no explanation. That came after leaving us without any message or apology about the alarm. It was screaming just below our room from the time we arrived in the afternoon. We wanted to stay in and rest through the heat, but the noise made that impossible. When we came back in the evening, it was still going, with nobody around to fix it or explain what was happening. We had to leave because it was unbearable. Our room felt uninhabitable, like it had been flooded. Other rooms on the far side of the building might have been better, but ours was directly above the alarm. We asked to be reimbursed as we would have if we'd found a flooded room. We ended up having to find another hotel at the last minute, one still open that late, and pay a premium. A simple message, an offer to move us, or understanding enough to waive the cost for that night would have helped. Instead, nothing. Just greed.
