Mediolanum Hotel

The central location is the one thing I liked. The receptionist was the only staff member who was kind and polite; the others were extremely unprofessional and shockingly rude, below what I’d expect even at a cheap hostel. The room was clean but very small, and I found hair on the blankets or pillows. There was barely any cold water, and the pressure was so low the bidet was hard to use. You could hear people talking in other rooms through the walls, and at 8 a.m. I was told the coffee had run out. I didn’t have breakfast, but the croissants I saw at the bar didn’t look fresh. No one greeted me, said goodbye, or even made eye contact. I don’t know how this place has a four-star rating. I rarely post negative reviews, so when I say this was a disaster, I mean it. Maybe the team has changed since the older, more positive reviews, because my experience was the complete opposite. I strongly advise against staying here. There are plenty of better three-star hotels in the same area.

The staff were helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious, and they kept our bags securely after checkout. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the train station and eight minutes from a metro stop. There’s a free self-service area with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and more from 3 to 9 p.m. Breakfast was okay, though I’ve had better. Compared with the other four-star hotels we stayed at in Italian cities, this place felt and looked a bit like student accommodation. It was adequate.

The breakfast was stellar, and I’d happily come back for that and the location. Some of the staff, from reception to the restaurant and housekeeping, were amazing. Sound insulation needs work, though, and the ventilation too. I could smell the basement breakfast from the top floor.

We had a clean, spacious room in a quiet area, so sleeping well was easy. The staff were friendly and courteous, and we enjoyed our stay without any issues. Being near the train station suited our travel plans and made public transport easy to reach. The city center is a bit of a walk, but we didn’t mind since we prefer walking when we can.
