Meininger Milano Lambrate

We were four siblings travelling together, and overall we had a satisfying stay. The room was clean and roomy, and there were comfortable shared spaces downstairs. Free towels and tap-to-pay laundry were handy. There’s a good café next door and tasty restaurants within walking distance. When we asked, reception gave us a list of nearby places to eat and their opening hours. Our food went missing from the communal fridge, even though we labelled it as required. The leftover pizza boxes must have been too tempting for someone. Reception were sympathetic and checked their storage fridge for unlabelled food, but all they could do beyond that was give us the restaurant list. The location is convenient for Milan Lambrate station, though walking around the neighbourhood after dusk didn’t feel very safe to us.

The two guys at reception in June were the friendliest reception staff I met anywhere in the nine countries I visited on a two-week European trip. They were a pleasure to deal with, and one helped me work out a route to my concert when I realised I had no idea where I was going. He even made me one of the nicest coffees I’ve had. The venue was very well kept, with hotel-level standards at hostel prices. It’s just far enough from the busy city centre, and the train station right across the road made getting there easy, with several direct lines. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only noisy moments came from a large group of visiting high school teenagers who happened to be staying there too. The main lobby got loud and busy when they were getting ready to go into town or return, but the soundproofing was excellent. No other cons for me.

Right across from Milano Lambrate Station, it’s easy to reach the rest of the city. The place feels bright, clean, neat, and comfortable, with something close to hotel comfort at hostel prices. I really love it and would recommend it.

The staff were kind, and the rooms were okay, though the mattress was mediocre. I regret booking here. It’s far from most of the city’s interesting areas, and as someone travelling alone in my early thirties hoping to meet other travellers, I didn’t find it a good fit. The guests seemed to be mostly noisy groups of kids and older people. There’s also a TV in the dorms for some reason, which makes little sense and lets people watch it at midnight while disturbing everyone else.
