Miu Hotel

I had a very pleasant stay. The staff were super friendly, and all my needs and requests were taken care of. Everything was well provided, and I’d gladly recommend the hotel. It’s near a supermarket and reasonably close to the MiCo Milano Allianz conference centre. Metro lines and other public transport stops are nearby too.

A clean, cheap hotel in a very old building, and there’s no elevator. It’s for people with low expectations. Communicating with staff was difficult: I tried English, French, and Spanish, then ended up using hand gestures. They were friendly, though.

The owners, Mauro and Benedetta, are exceptionally kind and knowledgeable, and provide service that feels like a five-star hotel. When my phone wouldn’t let me register the daily Ecopass for my car, they took the time to do it for me. I doubt receptionists at a top-class hotel would have done that personally. The family atmosphere is attentive and friendly, and I feel at home here. Booking and email communication are easy and prompt. Special arrangements can be made directly with the owner and resident manager, and there’s an internet station in the lobby for guests. For me, this hotel is one of the three or four places I tend to return to in Milano. I feel lucky whenever I can get a room at Hotel Nuovo Murillo, and after this review I hope I can still find one. The breakfast is a real Italian brunch rather than a continental spread: seven kinds of fresh croissants, assorted pastries, two homemade cakes, quality muesli and yogurt, fresh bread, and fruit juices. I learned that the owners have a nearby bakery and pastry shop, which makes the food all the more impressive. Espresso and cappuccino made with the Mokka taste excellent. Rooms are very clean and not too small for a city-centre hotel, though there’s no elevator. There’s a small garden with tables on the ground floor, a quiet place to relax in the middle of the big city, a bit like a good Ryokan in Japan. There’s no indoor parking, but this is one of the few streets in Milano where you can park for free. Transport is convenient too: a bus stop is right outside, the tram is a few steps away, and the Red line MM1 is reachable on foot or by taking a bus that passes every few minutes.

Everything was fine during my one-night stay in Summer 2014. The hotel is a little way from central Milan, but I could take a tram that dropped me just around the corner. The nearby massage shop, Centro Massaggio Perla Luminosa, was also nice, especially for its hospitality. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s closed now.
