The building’s history really stayed with me. It was once part of a 17th century convent complex beside a canal that disappeared nearly a century ago, and the location makes it easy to walk to the major sights. The small staff made the tired but welcoming palazzo feel intimate, and we felt genuinely looked after. I’ve travelled the world for over 50 years, and I worry about the charm disappearing from hotels. So many have traded history and character for sterile, interchangeable rooms. I try to choose places that honor their heritage and connect me to a city’s past. With that in mind, and without limiting myself by budget, I chose Petit Palais du Charm in Milan. I knew a historic place might not be conventionally perfect or match its price in every physical detail. My wife and I were there the week before Christmas, when the hotel and city had a warm, festive feel. The reviews I’d read were mostly accurate. Our stay was meaningful, personal, warm, and genuinely delightful, with a few quirky moments. I wasn’t disappointed. It was a lovely hotel de charme, the kind that’s getting harder to find and that I really appreciate.

The room was spacious and had a kitchenette, and the staff were lovely. There was some road noise at night, so keep that in mind, but the location is perfect. When we left, it happened to be my birthday, and they surprised me with chocolate from a high-end confectioner nearby. Such a sweet gesture. I’ll absolutely come back.

We’ve stayed here three times now, and we’ll certainly come back on our next Milan trip. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated, and breakfast in the room was delicious. We had a wonderful two-night stay. Highly recommended.

It’s just across the street from the metro, which was a plus. The staff were kind and tried to fix the TV, but it never worked during our stay. The rooms felt extremely old, with layers of dust on the lampshades and fabric, and there was an odor. Noise was the worst part. There must be a hospital nearby, because ambulance after ambulance went by, and with the street traffic too, it was very hard to sleep. I was really underwhelmed.

They cancelled my Olympic booking without ever telling me a deadline for early payment and authorization. I have a full recording and documentation of the booking process, and no date was communicated. Now they’ve cancelled because hotel management failed to give a deadline when I booked, then tried to charge 100%. I consider this fraudulent business practice. I’ll submit formal complaints to EU authorities. The management clearly lacks education.
