Hotel San Marco

The biggest reason to stay here in winter is skiing: Hotel San Marco sits by the lifts, so you can ski in and out. Maestro ski school was great for our five-year-old. Erwin taught him and another Italian child with patience and care. The hotel is on a mountain pass, with little within walking distance beyond a couple of hotels and restaurants. Ski buses run to Moena, a charming town about 20 minutes away, though snow can make the ride longer. We had half board, which suited us well. Breakfast had enough choice to mix things up, though after a week it became a little repetitive. Dinner was Italian style, with a salad bar, primi piati, secondi piati, and dessert. The menu changed daily and was usually very good or excellent. The Ladin night was especially enjoyable. Dinner starts at 7:30 and we often finished around 8:30, so an earlier option would suit us older guests who go to bed around 9 or 10. We took lunch at the hotel once, but with breakfast around 9 and dinner at 7:30 it felt like too much food in a day. Smaller portions are possible, but I'm not built for those. Bar prices seemed normal: beer was 5.5 EUR, Coca Cola about 4 EUR, and sandwiches 5-10 EUR. The staff were the best part, all lovely and friendly, with enough English and a real effort to make us comfortable. Check-in was quick and easy. We unloaded our bags in the parking lot, then moved the car to the underground garage. The rooms are a bit small and it took us a day to get used to ours, but then it felt comfortable. The TV is small, though the balcony view beats any program: skiers on the mountain and sun on the peaks. The balcony itself is small but fine for sitting out, and the bathroom shower wasn't too cramped. There's a pool and sauna, both seemed adequate, plus an outdoor jacuzzi, though I only used the pool. The pool opening time around 5pm felt late; I'd suggest opening at 1pm and staying open until around 9pm. Kids have a playroom with great animators, and there's baby dance in the bar in the evenings followed by activities like karaoke. Again, the employees were extremely friendly. We got back yesterday and already miss the hotel and especially its kind staff. We hope to return next winter. One small issue: using the hairdryer seemed to trip the electricity, so we had to flip the switch a couple of times. These little things don't change that it was a 5+ star vacation for us. We were hiking the AV2 and booked this place a week ahead. It was very good value, the service was good, and I really enjoyed the food after building up an appetite. The room was a little small, but the bed was very comfortable. I'd definitely recommend it.

The hotel was beautifully designed, and the rooms were clean and nicely decorated. After staying in Rifugio huts, it felt luxurious. Along the Alta via dos, it's a great deal for the price, with free wifi. Dinner is included and was incredible, starting with an appetizer buffet followed by three courses. Breakfast is included too. Definitely stay here if you can!

The hotel is warm and sits between two ski lifts. Food was decent, and there’s evening entertainment and a playroom for kids. Breakfast, though, is mostly cake. There’s no toaster, and they oddly use a George Foreman grill instead. Don’t try to leave the garage by way of the squash court. I ended up in a corridor with locked doors and couldn’t get out, and the staff didn’t seem interested in helping me.
