The bathroom had cobwebs and a few hairs, which made an already disappointing stay worse. When we booked, we'd asked for two double rooms and an extra bed for one more person, but were given a crib for a one-year-old instead. The three of us had to share a double bed. We checked in late, and although the hostess let us stay at her property, nobody got the breakfast that had been included when we booked. We paid in full, so I can't help wondering if that was retaliation.

For a night or two exploring the Romagna villages, this is a good base, and Cattolica and Gradara are easy to reach. Montegridolfo, Montefiore Conca, and Saludecio are worth a trip too. The B&B sits in the center of Mondaino, known for its piazza, "La padella." It's an old building with a striking staircase up to the rooms and tastefully arranged antique furniture. The village is so quiet that you can sleep with the windows open, at least until the morning bells. Breakfast is self-service, with a cake and a fridge stocked with juice, milk, yogurt, granola, and biscuits. I would've liked one croissant each.

My family room was upstairs on the top floor, spacious and lovely, with a breathtaking view. The house itself is beautiful, with a staircase running up the middle. The B&B is in a village perched high on a hill. We were welcomed very kindly, and breakfast was excellent.
