There was basically no privacy: the interior doors were flimsy, with other guests’ rooms right behind them. The only window faced the busy main street at ground level. It felt like being shut in a dark hole, listening to the neighbors’ favorite reggaeton.

Right by the sea and in the middle of the old town, the bed and breakfast is in a great spot. The room was comfortable and clean, but felt a little damp and had no windows. There was no Wi-Fi or cellular signal inside.

UNACCEPTABLE. It was musty, damp, dirty, and noisy, in a room behind a pizzeria beside a garbage can. It felt basically like a basement storage unit.

From Don Pedro di Toledo, it’s about 30 meters to the local castle, 150 meters to the harbor and its postcard-blue boats, and a 12-15 minute walk to the train station. Porto Rosso, which I think is Monopoli’s most beautiful beach, is about the same walk away. The apartment is in the heart of the old town, spacious and clean, with a kitchen, bathroom, hairdryer, towels, large fridge, table, TV, and an extra single bed for a child. The air conditioning works well, though the thick walls keep the place pleasant anyway and block much of the noise from nearby restaurants, so we slept comfortably. The owner is very friendly. She speaks only Italian, but she replies quickly on WhatsApp, and we managed to arrange everything easily with Google Translate.
