Masseria Santanna

We stayed for a lovely short week at the end of September, and the quiet, secluded setting was a big part of the appeal. The masseria has a luxurious, rustic feel, and the three women who run it were so kind and ready to help with whatever we needed. We cooked local food each night in the useful kitchen, which had the basic utensils and condiments supplied. Breakfast was even better than anywhere else we’ve stayed, with fresh Italian bread, fruit, and slow juice, plus an international breakfast available on request. There are plenty more good things I could mention. Highly recommend, and we hope to return. Grazie mille a tutti!

What makes this place feel different is the sense of community, even though it still has the services of a B&B. It’s a clean, simply maintained former farmhouse on the old transhumance route, set between a dirt track and a forest, with its original character intact. The silence, pool, balcony view, and breakfast all stood out. Daniela and Pina gave us great tips on places to go and eat, even if you don’t feel like cooking in the shared kitchen. Alberobello, Monopoli, and the beaches at Capitolo are only a few kilometers away.

The hosts really made this stay memorable, always on hand with thoughtful suggestions for beaches, sights, restaurants, and bars. The peaceful countryside location is still handy, about 20 minutes from the coast and Monopoli and 10 from Alberobello. Masseria Sant'Anna is a lovely historic building in an unspoiled rural area, with courtyards, a garden furnished with tables and chairs, and a spacious breakfast room that feels relaxed and homey. Our room was bright, roomy, cool, and very quiet. The bathroom was basic but worked well, and two of the three have recently been renovated with large showers. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of fresh and packaged local organic products. Parking in the inner courtyards was very convenient. We’ll be back soon.

We loved being able to relax in the evenings after exploring the area. The Masseria is in a lovely quiet spot, with a small pool, loungers, and a seating area beside it. Albarobello is about a 10-minute drive, and the sea takes 15-20 minutes. There’s plenty to see nearby. We were also able to use the guest kitchen to make dinner, which was handy while traveling with a child. The owner is very kind, speaks English, and makes a fantastic breakfast. You can manage without Italian, Google Translate helps too. Pina is friendly and happy to help with anything. Breakfast really was wonderful. The old building is beautiful, and the rooms, though small, are clean and charming.
