The only downside was parking: it cost 20 Euro per day at a nearby lot, about a 10-minute walk away, and the lot is below the hill rather than level with the Duomo. Don't bring too much with you or the walk turns into a quick workout. Still, staying overnight gave us a view of Monreale after the daytime crowds left: locals arrived, and after midnight we were alone on the terrace watching the Duomo. Getting up early to see the sun rise was even more marvelous, followed by breakfast that you can buy and bring out to the terrace. The room was clean and had a nice, modern style. Massimo was friendly and helpful. One of the best experiences of our life.

Massimo has quite a personality. I couldn't help thinking Fellini would have given him a part in one of his films, if he were still around. We stayed in Sicily almost a year ago, and I still remember Monreale so clearly. The room looked over the entrance to the Duomo, right in the center of beautiful Monreale, and the breakfast Massimo served was the best I've had anywhere in the world. Massimo, Grazie Mille. The room was extremely dirty, and the bathroom was worse. Management was poor, with so many problems that I don't intend to list them all. Despite the attractive listing photos, the room had average art and furniture. I still don't understand how Booking can give it a 9+ rating; that feels completely irrelevant. A terrible experience. Save your money and stay somewhere else!
