Mastrojanni Relais - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

We found it a little hard to arrange excursions and spa visits. By the time we got there, many vineyard tours and spa slots were already full or unavailable, so we missed a few things we’d hoped to do. Still, the warm atmosphere, wonderful meals and views made the stay unforgettable. Mastrojanni Relais is a lovely place to relax and take in the Tuscan countryside, but plan those outings ahead. We stayed here on our honeymoon through Tuscany, just outside Montalcino. The location is gorgeous, with sweeping hill views and a wonderfully peaceful feel, though you’ll need a car to get around easily. Our room was spacious, comfortable and full of character. One of our favourite moments was floating in the infinity pool, looking out over the vineyards and hills. We also loved having dinner at the hotel each night. The food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared, a great end to each day. We were lucky enough to attend their first summer BBQ, too. Everything was freshly made, we met the owner, and they took great care of me as a vegetarian.

The rooms are beautiful, and we can’t wait to visit again in 2026. This was already our second stay, and we had three days on the property. Federica took such thoughtful care of us and made us feel welcome throughout. She’s a big part of what makes Mastrojanni special. All the other team members who helped us over the weekend were so kind too, though there were too many names for me to remember them all. At breakfast, the woman serving us remembered our order. On the second morning, our coffee was already ready, and she had saved me a chocolate croissant after I’d asked the day before and they’d run out. That little moment really captured Mastrojanni for me. Breakfast being included was a big plus. We also had a 12 course dinner with a Michelin Star chef, and the service was amazing. Someone from Mastrojanni helped translate the dishes so we’d know what we were eating. The location, wine, food and service were all top quality. Everyone on the property greeted us kindly, from arrival to departure.

Our stay at Mastrojanni Relais in Tuscany was unforgettable. The rooms and buildings are beautiful, and the surrounding scenery is exquisite. The cuisine and wine were outstanding, and my husband and I have rarely experienced staff as welcoming and kind.

The location is superb, with beautiful surroundings, and bringing a winery and hotel together makes for an ideal getaway. The winery tour was a highlight and is a must-do. We had a lovely stay, but a few things fell short for a high-end place charging premium prices. There was no hot water in the shower for three days. It was a hotel-wide problem: our friends had the same issue, and we heard other guests mention it at breakfast. Better communication from the hotel might have helped smooth things over. We didn’t get a breakfast menu until our third and last day, so before then we assumed breakfast was buffet only. Service was often slow or seemed inexperienced. We had to ask for coffee several times, there was no bar service at the pool, and on our first night in the restaurant the server made us feel pressured to tip. In a premium establishment, the small details matter.
