B&B Le Mangiatoie del Cavaliere

Once you pass through the gate at Le Mangiatore del Cavaliere, you’ll find a lovely surprise: old stone farm buildings turned into a small hotel. The rooms are clean, nicely equipped and simply decorated in a way that respects the place’s tradition. Breakfast was delicious, including a traditional sweet treat. The hospitable family who run the pension are charming and helpful, and the brothers are great. We felt at home. We chose to stay for six days while traveling around Sicily in April 2024, looking for somewhere near the sea but also close to shops and restaurants. Montbello may not be Italy’s prettiest town, but this place made our stay.

We needed a peaceful break from the bustle of Siracusa, and this charming, quaint B&B was just right. The hostess was genuinely kind, our room was beautiful and clean, and the property itself is a historical landmark. If you’re visiting Monteallegro for Torre Salsa or the nearby beaches, this is a lovely place for a relaxing, quiet stay.

The place has a really distinctive feel, having been converted from a stable for horses and cows into a B&B. Finding it is difficult, and it’s surrounded by homes where people talk loudly. There’s no parking either, so you have to leave the car on a main street and carry your luggage. Still, it’s a truly unique spot for people who enjoy unusual, off-the-grid places.
