Hotel Manzoni

We liked quite a lot about the hotel: check-in was smooth, a very friendly woman welcomed us and explained the parking. The room seemed spacious, modern, and clean, with comfortable furniture and bed, good lighting, a large bathroom, vanity kit, glasses, TV, AC, and minibar. It was well aired and didn't smell of smoke. Breakfast had a decent variety and wasn't crowded. The bar staff were friendly, with a good drinks selection, and the WiFi was excellent, so it could be a good place to work. We booked through booking, where things looked alright. There were some smaller problems. The lockbox had no key, the emergency plan was for another hotel, and the floor was poorly cleaned. My black socks came away white, perhaps because the room had been renovated and still had dust from the materials or something else. The jacuzzi and pool needed care too: there were things floating, the pool floor was dirty, and some table boards were rotten. The parking offer was supposedly a good deal: €9 for four nights on the blue line outside the hotel, instead of free parking a few blocks away. Free parking would have been okay, but we chose convenience. The hotel's own lot cost €12 a night, too expensive for us. The serious issue was the door, which didn't always lock properly. Two women from a room one floor below mixed up the floor and opened our door while my girlfriend had just come out of the shower and was naked. We went to reception to report it, and I was accused of not locking the door right. The two women, the man at the front desk, and I went upstairs to try it again. Sometimes the door opened just by pushing it. I used my card key to open it, pushed it open, let it close and lock on its own, and we could hear it lock, but the woman could still push it open. The man kept saying I was doing it wrong. The night ended badly. I felt paranoid going to sleep, the women left, and I heard the man say something to them as they went. The next day I couldn't recreate the problem at first, but a few hours later, after several tries, I managed to open the door even though I thought it was locked. The system is faulty, though it happens sporadically. Other reviews have also mentioned door-locking problems. It seriously concerns me, especially since anyone can walk into a hotel and our belongings were in the room. This changed my opinion of the hotel. The staff member was rude and treated me as if I were making things up, and they handled the issue poorly. I don't expect compensation and didn't receive any, nor do I want it. I'm sharing what happened as a warning. No hate, just the truth. So, no, I wouldn't stay here again.

We weren't hotel guests, but booked the massage and hydro facilities and were very happy with the spa day deal. The massage ladies who work with Nicoletta were great. They gave us towels and a padlock at no extra charge, which differs from other places nearby. It was great before a flight. The restaurant area was nice too. Ignore my one-star room rating, since we didn't stay overnight. The form required a room rating for me to finish the review.

The staff were amazing, the hotel was well equipped, and we enjoyed the breakfast and poolside cafe. It's a quaint little place in the city center and was amazing value for money. There are rough edges and it could use more refurbishment. The pool area doesn't feel luxurious, which isn't something anyone should expect, and the rooms are a bit small. I'm not sure it deserves a full five out of five, but it should score above 4.0, especially when it's currently rated 3.9. We had a great stay.

The location was fantastic, with places of interest within walking distance, plus lovely shopping and eateries in this pleasant spa town. We also enjoyed the sunny terrace and covered pool and spa. Breakfast and dinner offered plentiful, varied food, and the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. It felt like a different hotel once we were in the restaurant. The room was extremely disappointing and nothing like advertised. It was basic, small, and tired, with stained old decor, loose fittings, and peeling paint and plaster. The twin beds had been pushed together, but one was higher than the other. The cleaning staff seemed to do their best, though the room needs a complete refurbishment. Reception staff were mostly surly and ignored us; when we got their attention, they seemed uninterested and unhelpful. Montecatini itself is well worth a visit, but I can't recommend this hotel.
