I still can’t quite believe how wonderful Torre Sassa was. It’s a real medieval tower, lovingly restored and cared for, with incredibly comfortable canopy beds, ensuite bathrooms, a full suit of armor in the lobby and original furniture. The views from the top are breathtaking. This is my favorite AirBnb stay so far, and I’m a superhost myself who’s stayed in some spectacular places around the world. It’s a bit pricey, sure, but worth every penny and more. Come on, you get a whole castle to yourself! I’d also highly recommend having dinner prepared by the lovely Manola, a delicious Tuscan meal. If you’re thinking of booking, just go. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Unwinding on the balcony with that amazing view was wonderful. We arrived late, so many of the stores were already closed, but the townspeople were very friendly. The beautiful setting really makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another time. A bucket-list visit checked off, and highly recommended.

The tower is a private property that you can book as a hotel, so it isn’t open to the public for a quick visit. It was beautiful and well maintained inside, and the hosts took great care of us.

At the village’s highest point, the building overlooks the whole valley and the hills stretching all the way to Volterra from its summit terrace. It’s now a B&B, but staying there lets you step back into the Middle Ages and live in a real medieval residence arranged vertically across the tower’s floors.
