Villa Zuccari

We stayed in June 2021, just after Italy reopened to tourists, so there were only a few guests. The staff were friendly and caring, and we loved the breakfasts and dinners, especially the wine. The hotel, garden and swimming pool are marvellous, and it's easy to reach some of the region's most astonishing towns from here.

The owner makes breakfast, which gives it a nice personal touch, and the antique atmosphere and really spacious rooms make this a special place to relax. It's only two floors, but there's an elevator. The one drawback is that it's out of the way. With all the facilities, there should be a steam iron in the room, and a paved ramp from the parking area to the lobby would make it easier to bring suitcases in from the car. Otherwise, a great place to stay and chill.

The staff know Umbria's towns and sights well, so ask them for ideas. The hotel has around 25 rooms and is quiet, with a great location for exploring the region: Montefalco is a 10 minute drive and Spoleto about 25. Breakfast is excellent, with lots of delicious freshly baked cakes, which is something special. For lunch, there's a very simple cold option, like bread or a cheese platter. Dinner is available too, with a great restaurant and a very good menu, though you can also eat in Montefalco. Rooms are spacious and clean. I'd choose one with a view or terrace, since the others don't have an outdoor area. The pool is big, with plenty of sunbeds, and the garden around it is beautiful.

We loved staying here, and were sad to leave. The hotel is beautiful, the team is lovely, and the pool is stunning. The rooms are large and really comfortable, and the food is excellent.
