Terme Petrarca

I live near Montegrotto and have known Hotel Petrarca for years, often visiting for the day spa. The pools and spa services are extensive and, to me, really well done. Everything has stayed clean, though some parts are looking a little worn and could use an update. For a day visit, I found reception confusing, with very little guidance on finding my way around the building. The best part of my relaxing day was a 50-minute massage from Miss Manola’s expert hands!

The staff were professional and helpful, and breakfast was good. The resort has great swimming pools and thermal facilities, and it’s in a good location. My room was functional but needs renovation. The hairdryer they provided was great, something I’ve never found at another four-star resort. We’ll be back.

We’ve been coming as a family for over three years. We live in London and have a holiday property not far from the hotel. The pool is great for kids, but it isn’t as clean as other places, and the staff weren’t helpful at all. This year there were new rules we didn’t know about, including mandatory pool caps and not being allowed back in after exiting. They should explain all the rules when tickets are bought, especially when we paid £140 just for entry. The rude staff and racist porter have lost our custom. We won’t be back. Avoid it if you’re after a perfect time.

I’ve come here three years in a row, and nobody told me about any rules before. If staff explain them when I buy tickets, I’m happy to follow instructions. I paid €130 for the family, and with my one-year-old, I usually go home for a nap halfway through the day, as anyone might. On the way in, the porter said he didn’t know me, though I remembered him from the previous year. After I sent my wife to reception, he told me “no me frega” and told another man I might steal something. He used very rude language. I understand Italian, though I can’t speak it. He also sent me to another parking area, saying this one was full, but several cars were leaving at the same time. I checked afterwards and saw plenty of spaces. I found the behavior very rude and racist. We came on holiday to relax and let the kids enjoy the pool. My wife and I had massages and mud packing, and I wanted to have a pleasant time, not steal from anyone. I’ll never come back.
