Gianni and Maria were kind, gracious hosts who made me feel at home, even with the language barrier. They made an effort to communicate and were always available if I needed anything. When Gianni saw me reading in the yard, he brought me a cot/patio chair. Before checkout, he noticed me cleaning the rental car windows, fetched his hose and helped spray down the whole car. That was so kind, beyond what I expected, and what made the biggest impression. They really wanted me to enjoy my stay. If you stay here, I think it’s important to be considerate, as you would in a friend or family member’s home. I loved greeting their two dachshunds each day. They’re well loved and cared for, with plenty of room to play and roam. The quiet terrace overlooking two neighboring farms and vineyards was a lovely place for breakfast and reading. It felt like a home away from home, with the separate house and hosts giving me all the privacy I wanted. The bedroom, bathroom and living room were spacious, comfortable and clean, and the bathroom towels were fluffy and clean. In early September, the house stayed at a comfortable temperature, protecting me from the afternoon heat and cooler air before sunrise. I’m from the SF Bay Area, for context. There was a complimentary bottle of wine from their vineyard, plus various breakfast snacks and drinks, a thoughtful touch. This was my favorite accommodation during my Italy vacation, and I look forward to returning. I recommend staying at least two nights to enjoy the property and surroundings. It’s in the Val D’Orcia region of Tuscany, a 5-10 minute drive from Montepulciano and its delicious restaurants. It’s also a short 15-20 minute drive to more remote rural spots for sunset, including a place where, apparently, some scenes in Gladiator were filmed.
