We loved the small breakfast they offer. Having a cappuccino in the quiet early morning was a treat, and opening the window at the top of town to the Tuscan hills and countryside was the real highlight. The church bells and peaceful setting are hard to forget. This is easily a four to five star place, and we can’t say enough about how great it is. People even poked their heads into what might be called the lobby as we walked out, wondering what beautiful place it was. I told them, “Oh my God, it’s amazing. We’re actually staying here.” We spent two nights atop the city walls, surrounded by the serene Southern Tuscan landscape, which felt almost biblical. If you skip this place on a visit to Montepulciano, you’ll miss out on the full experience. The updated rooms were among the most modern we stayed in during all nine days in Central Italy. We were also lucky to book a wine tasting at the De' Ricci tasting cellar. It gave us a fuller sense of Montepulciano’s history, including the very historic Il Riccio. We’d also recommend visiting the Icario winery and tasting room, about a 30-minute walk from the top of town. Some people looked at us a little crazy as we walked there, while others cheered our bravado. The little red golf cart tour circles the city and, for €10, takes you up the hill you’ll have to climb several times. We didn’t mind the walk and appreciated the extra exercise.

We had amazing views, a top-notch breakfast, and everything was very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. One of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed, and we’ll definitely be back.

It’s right in the centre of Montepulciano, close to the tourist sights, wineries, restaurants, and cafés. The host was great, and the place is full of history while still feeling like home.

The hotel was exceptionally clean, quiet, and beautiful, right on the main square. We stayed in room 33, next to the breakfast room and reception, but the soundproofing worked so well we didn’t hear any noise from the breakfast crowd. Highly recommend it! You can drive up to unload your luggage, then park in the reserved lot. Just be aware that getting back uphill to the hotel is a strenuous climb, so the person parking the car needs to be reasonably fit.
