Rooms and Wine

A charming, almost dreamlike spot for a medieval-feeling escape from the busy city. It’s beautiful! Along with the usual offerings, they have tastings of their own wines. I really recommend it.

After hiking from Siena, I got to enjoy a wine tasting at Rooms and Wine. Chiara, our Sommelier, knew the wines and food pairings well and was wonderful. We sat outside and took in the town of Monteriggioni.

We were walking, and our luggage had arrived before us and was already in the room when we got there. The owner welcomed us and made sure we were looked after. We had one of the newest rooms, which I believe was added this year, and it was just right: clean, quiet, cool, and comfortable. Filtered water was provided for refilling our bottles. Lunch at the hotel restaurant was fantastic, just right for a hot, sunny day. After exploring the town, we came back for a wine tasting and a light dinner, both good. The restaurant filled up for the evening while others were mostly empty, so request a reservation if you want to eat there. Breakfast the next morning was adequate, though less elaborate than at our previous three hotels. One of the owners saw us off and asked where we were headed, Siena. When she noticed our planned dinner at Campo Cedro, she said it was one of her favorite places there. It was exceptional. She has excellent taste.

The room had character and was practical, and we found our hosts thoughtful and helpful. The hotel and restaurant have a meaningful focus on local production. This was our best stay along the via Francigena route. We’d gladly come back.
