Hotel More Di Cuna

The staff were genuinely friendly and seemed to be doing their best, which is why I’m giving this place two stars. The rooms, though, were a shock. We checked four or five, and somehow the one we got was the nicest. The photos online look lovely, but they’re nowhere near what the rooms are actually like. Ours felt like a prison cell from an old film, with a thin mattress more like a child’s bed and just a light cotton sheet, no blankets. Early risers make enough noise that sleeping in is difficult. 😂

Our ground-floor room was quiet, cosy, very clean and well equipped, with hot water whenever we wanted a bath. The hotel had a traditional, romantic feel and a nice view, and the staff were warm and helpful. Parking was never a problem. We stayed three nights for €408, with breakfast not included. It cost €7 per person per day, and we thought it was well worth it because there was plenty to eat.

Breakfast and parking were the good parts. The rooms were very noisy, with wooden floors, paper-thin walls and three busy roads nearby. The shower was poor, and there was no air conditioning despite it being advertised. They also charge €30 for a lost plastic key card that costs 50 cents at retail. We found out there are much better options close by.

The receptionist was really kind and helpful, even booking a nearby restaurant for us when we asked. Breakfast was simple but tasty. Our room was big enough for two people and a dog, though the walls were so thin I could hear every word our neighbours said, and worse, what they were doing. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Siena and close to the highway, so bear that in mind if you like sleeping with the windows open.
