The meals were a real highlight. Breakfast came with fresh eggs made to order, pastries baked that morning, cereal, vegetables and Italian salumi. When they asked what could make it better, we couldn't think of a thing. We also ate dinner there several times, and the fresh, simple ingredients made for lovely food. We spent nearly two weeks here in August 2015 and still wished we had longer. We came to see a new part of Tuscany and found a peaceful countryside retreat, with Pisa, Lucca and smaller places like San Miniato close enough for day trips. The pool is large and kept without chlorine, so no stinging eyes. Beatrice & Roberto were kind, helpful and clearly devoted to their guests, the agriturismo and their animals. We especially loved talking with them under the Tuscan night sky while our son played with Mantzu or searched for geckos. The house and grounds were clean and calm, and it was easy to feel how much care they put into the vegetables and animals. We didn't manage to see everything on our list, which gives us another reason to return to beautiful Vitalba and visit Beatrice, Roberto and their family again.

We were welcomed so warmly, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Agriturismo Vitalba is a charming place to spend a few nights at a fair price, in a lovely setting. It's also a handy starting point for visiting the art cities, with a very convenient train to Florence. We'd love to come back in spring and see the colors we missed in winter.

The pool is lovely, and with only a few apartments it stays peaceful even in high season. The setting is quiet, so you'll need a car, though plenty of attractions are within easy reach. Our apartment had tasteful decor and useful equipment, including a dishwasher, oven and kettle. For us Dutchies, there wasn't a microwave or a 'normal' coffee maker. The owners were friendly and full of helpful ideas for restaurants and outings. They also regularly host dinner for all the guests at their home, which we'd recommend.

We celebrated our niece's birthday at Agriturismo Vitalba in Montopoli, Varese. What started as a hearty snack turned into a delicious dinner, with bread soup, crostini, excellent cheese, pizzas and focaccias. We didn't stay overnight, but got to see the Tuscan-style apartments. They looked spacious, clean and beautiful. The property is well cared for, with a pool and donkeys, ducks, geese and chickens around. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Congratulations!
