Having to call their mobile whenever we needed someone at reception was frustrating. Check-in itself was quick, but all we were told was where the room was. When we asked about breakfast hours, the Wi-Fi password, and the air conditioning, we got “8 am,” an unintelligible string of numbers that they didn't bother to write down, and “there isn't.” The receptionist seemed especially annoyed by our questions. The biggest issue was that we booked a room listed with a bathtub and a streaming service, which implies a TV, but our room had neither. There was only one single-use soap in the bathroom, too. The owner's response called these things part of the facility's age, but none of that was explained in the listing. My Booking confirmation clearly lists “View, Bathtub, Streaming Service.” The property also mentions yoga classes and a spa with massages, which I'm pretty sure don't exist. We got almost no information at check-in or afterward, so the owner's comment about me needing to read listings better felt like an ad hominem remark. It's a shame, because the other two owners seem very, very nice. I just wish they'd explained how things worked. Breakfast was tasty, though lackluster, and with so little explained, we may have missed something. I suppose you get what you pay for, but I expected at least basic service. I wouldn't stay here again.

We came across Rura by chance, and I'm so glad we did. The food is excellent quality, a step above a regular Italian restaurant, yet still very reasonably priced. Paulino and Marina make you feel at home straight away.

The dishes are high quality and feel quite upscale, but the price is affordable. Great food and wine, with friendly service.

Everything was wow, from the staff and food to the location.

Rurà Hotel is a great base for trips to Pollino National Park and visits to Laino Borgo, known for its spectacular murals, and Laino Castello. I spent a night there. It's a very special place, partly because the former monastery and seminary has direct access to a beautiful church. The rooms are clean, though simply furnished, and there's ample parking. Breakfast is sweet only, but plentiful. Lunch and dinner are excellent, with fresh pasta made strictly in-house. If you're not too fussy or demanding, Rurà is an excellent choice.
