Exe Majestic Hotel

The room had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed, really hot water, and strong water pressure. The front desk was friendly and happy to adjust the AC, and check-in and checkout were easy. It was very clean and quiet, and the price felt fair for the quality. Shops, supermarkets, restaurants, the train station, and the airport are all convenient, and the sea is only a three-minute walk away. There’s a taxi line outside, parking, a bar, and breakfast for an extra charge.

The location is the main thing this hotel has going for it. We paid an average of 300 euros a night for seven nights, and I’d call it a three-star stay at best. The building feels old and dated, and the hallway smelled. Noise carried through the thin walls and floors. We could hear neighbors talking, coughing, using the toilet and shower, and moving furniture. Opening the window wasn’t an option either. The air conditioning didn’t work, leaving the room at 26 degrees. We complained, but nothing changed. The front desk told us to go out for lunch or dinner and said it might be better when we got back. It wasn’t, and we spent the night sweating. The AC is controlled by the desk, which made that especially frustrating. There wasn’t a kettle, espresso machine, coffee cup, tea, or water in the room. The shower was tiny, maybe a metre by a metre. At this price I expected much better rooms and service. I can’t see how the four- or five-star reviews fit, unless we happened to get a particularly bad room. The place badly needs an overhaul.

Vincenzo was an amazing bartender, and we had such a good conversation with him about Naples and life. We’re from the United States and felt really welcome. We can’t say enough good things about him!

The front desk team was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is in a nice area with restaurants and the marina within walking distance. But I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The rooms felt dated, and the air conditioning was a major problem. Our room felt like an oven, with no thermostat, and I assume the temperature is controlled centrally. I’d booked two stays through a credit card. For the first one, I needed to change the dates. After more than a week of calls and emails with the reservation department, the hotel refused, so I had to give up the booking and lose the points or money. We stayed for the second booking on the way back from Sorrento, before leaving for Sardegna, since I knew I couldn’t cancel it. The hotel is pricey. I only booked because I planned to use credit card points, which I lost on the first reservation. I think an Airbnb would be a better, more affordable choice. My one star for service reflects the problem with the reservation department.
