Grand Hotel Europa

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable, a decent size, and cleaned every day with fresh towels. We were close to the central train station, and about a 20-minute walk from the start of the old town. The busy road nearby meant some nighttime noise, though it wasn't too bad. There was no fridge, which seems increasingly common in my experience. The restaurant menu was small and didn't appeal much to us; the bar food was okay. Watch out for tiger mosquitoes. A really solid hotel, recommended.

The location was very close to Napoli Centrale, and the beds were comfortable. The room was big, comfortable, and seemed clean, and the breakfast croissants were good. But the receptionist wasn't pleasant, the toilet had no door, and although I was traveling alone, the room had four beds. The neighborhood was really dirty. Breakfast was bland apart from the croissants, and while you could serve yourself some food, you had to ask someone for a croissant. Both bottles labeled "Still" and "Sparkling" contained sparkling water. Breakfast added about 30 euros per night and wasn't worth it. It did for a night's stop, but I wouldn't want to spend a vacation there.

We stayed here both before and after visiting the Amalfi Coast. It's a handy place for a night around a flight, within walking distance of the train station. They stored our luggage before check-in so we could explore the city, and helped arrange a taxi for our early airport flight.

The area around the hotel put me off at first, but inside it was quiet, clean, and welcoming. We brought our own tea and coffee supplies after reading that there weren't any in the room. The staff were pleasant, greeted us whenever we came back, and the desk is staffed around the clock. I mentioned that I'd broken a curtain ring, and it was replaced quickly during housekeeping. Breakfast was plentiful and served by the staff, enough to set us up for exploring. The location is handy for transport, and the airport bus stop is a short walk away, which helped when hauling our suitcases. One thing to know: if you're given a room on the third floor, the lift only goes to the second, leaving a couple of flights of stairs. They offered to carry our cases, but we hadn't realized how many steps there'd be and probably should have taken them up on it after our long, early start.
