Le Terrazze di Neapolis

I really enjoyed the colorful, quirky feel, and the staff were incredibly friendly. The location is great too. The rooms are small, though, and sound carries from around the building, especially from upstairs. Those things weren't deal breakers for me, but at 120 euros a night, I felt it could be much cheaper for what you get.

The rooms are simple but comfortable, and we were charmed by our stay. The welcome was warm, and the hotel is right in the middle of Naples' old town. Just be aware that the neighborhood stays lively late into the evening, so it can get noisy. If you're bringing a car, register it for permission to enter the restricted traffic zone. The cameras scan license plates automatically, and otherwise you might get a fine that puts a damper on your holiday.

The staff were kind and the bed was clean, but those were the only good things for me. My tiny single room didn't look like the hotel's photos, and the bed was right below the stairs, so I heard everyone going up and down. The bathroom was extremely small, with grout and chalk everywhere and black mold. I couldn't use the closet because of where it was placed. It felt worse than a hostel. Breakfast was basic, with a terrible choice of juices, and the windowless breakfast room was unpleasant without air conditioning. There was no AC in the hotel because, they said, its electrical system couldn't support it. With the window open, city noise came in; with it closed, the room was hot. The hotel takes up the third and fourth floors of a residential building, and the elevator is tiny. We were on a group tour and the operator had booked it. The location is central, but there are plenty of other hotels in the area.

The reception team were very friendly and helped whenever we needed something. It's a good deal for the price and location, right in Centro Storico, with pizzerias and restaurants on the main street just outside. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was fine. Breakfast was simple, with croissants, coffee, cereal and bread. It isn't a luxury hotel, and there can be some street noise even at night, but I thought it was a good 3 star place for the money.
