Lifestyle Hotel Matilde Naples

The room looked out over the galleria, and though I worried it might be noisy, it stayed very quiet. We got an early check-in and a fruit platter, and the rooms themselves were nice. The water pressure was the best I’ve had in Italy, and the location made it easy to reach shops and restaurants. Breakfast was a letdown: nobody brought us coffee, the orange juice wasn’t fresh and didn’t taste good, and staff clattered silverware around at 2am while preparing breakfast. The lobby feels dated, and we rarely saw anyone at the front desk or got a greeting. The man who carried our bags up from the ground floor was dressed so casually that I thought he was a random person, not an employee. I wouldn’t stay again. It felt like a 3-star hotel.

The location was just right, and breakfast was fresh and generous. Our room was modern, clean, and roomy, and the elevator made getting our suitcases upstairs easy. The reception team were welcoming and helpful. The shower was a real treat: the water got very hot, and the pressure was fantastic, even with my very long, thick, curly hair. We’d happily stay here again.

Matilde was a great base for exploring Naples. We could walk along Toledo toward Bellini, head down to the seaside, or go west to Chaia, and we ended up falling for the local culture. After researching the city and finding that many of the nicer hotels were older, I was glad this place felt new, modern, and spacious. The staff were consistently kind and helpful. We really enjoyed staying here.

Anna, the manager, Diana on the night reception shifts, and the restaurant team were all outstanding. They answered our questions and shared useful tips. Breakfast was fresh and varied, and the location put us right in the middle of things while keeping the hotel fairly quiet. We stayed three nights in a Superior Double. It was clean and tidy, with lots of space and one of the most comfortable beds we’ve slept in. The furniture and design were basic, though, and the TV was much too small. We also expected complimentary bottled water in the room each day. When we asked for some, nobody mentioned an extra charge, so I suppose it’s best to check first. Still, I’d highly recommend the hotel.
