DAVID M.
Right in the city center, this may be the most beautiful urban palazzo around.

I liked it.

Diomede Carafa was a soldier, politician, and notable man of letters. The building dates to the 15th century and stands on an earlier medieval structure. Its courtyard has a horse's head attributed to Donatello, a terracotta copy of the bronze one given to the National Museum of Naples in the 19th century. On the outside, the two-tone ashlar and wooden portal decorated with family emblems stand out.

Inside the roomy courtyard, the columns, arches, and decorative friezes frame a horse's head attributed to Donatello. It’s a restored terracotta copy of the original kept at the MANN. The palace is a beautiful Renaissance building on the lower decumanus, easy to spot for its two-color ashlar exterior, with a huge wisteria climbing one side. Above the lovely carved wooden doorway, which has recently been restored, is a statue of Hercules. There are several businesses and artisan workshops inside.

This historic building goes back to around 1500. It was the home of Diomede Carafa (1406-1466), a statesman and man of letters.
