Hotel Poker

The hotel was a complete disappointment from beginning to end. The building entrance was filthy, as if it had never been cleaned, and there were cigarette butts in the lobby, apparently left by staff. Guests don’t get keys to the main entrance, so you have to wait outside for someone to let you in. Several times after midnight we were left waiting 15 minutes or more, exposed to insecurity and risk. The worst incident was at checkout. The official time was 10:30 am, but at 9:23 am someone from staff opened our room door without permission. Ten minutes later they opened it again to ask when we were leaving. We clearly said we’d be out by the official time. They replied, “Ok, you have 15 minutes to leave.” That was at 9:33 am, almost an hour before checkout was due. Completely unacceptable. The hotel is in a dangerous area, and the customer service was terrible, unprofessional, and showed zero respect for guests’ privacy. I’ve never had such a horrible hotel experience.

The room was decent and the young man at reception was very friendly. Getting in is a little unusual: you ring the bell downstairs, then they open the door so you can go up to the first floor where the hotel is. We stayed for New Year’s Day, hoping to relax on the first morning, but that was hard. Before 8 a.m., the women preparing breakfast were talking so loudly, with our room right across from the dining room, I could’ve joined their conversation if I spoke Italian 😅. Later the cleaners banged on the door so hard I thought the police were raiding the place. Breakfast is bare minimum. My partner tried some butter and found grayish patches of rot. The woman serving drinks was coughing a lot without covering her mouth, and a mask seemed appropriate. Another day, after the room was cleaned, no fresh towels had been left, so I had to fetch some myself. That same day we and another couple waited outside because nobody answered the intercom, despite being told arrivals were possible 24/7. The neighborhood is a bit seedy, and I wouldn’t recommend it for a woman traveling alone. Breakfast is meager, and the cleaning staff are very noisy, even though reception staff are friendly.

We spent a week at Hotel Poker and had a wonderful time. The family atmosphere made us feel at home, the rooms were clean and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a perfect spot for exploring Naples, just steps from the train station and historic center. Breakfast was good and the value was excellent. I’d highly recommend it for a comfortable, welcoming, authentic stay. We’ll definitely come back!

The location is really convenient, but the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The heating in our room didn’t work, and neither did the toilet cistern. On the last night, we stood outside in the rain for 20 minutes because the guy didn’t answer. Then, at 11:30 pm, they called me and asked me to go out on the balcony to fix the boiler. The price is too high for the service.
