Hotel Zara

The shower drained more slowly than it filled at full flow, so it could flood if you weren't careful. The neighborhood didn't look great, as other reviews mention, but my group of four guys had no trouble and found a really good pizza place around the corner. The hotel itself was excellent: friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms, and everything we needed. It's very close to the central station, with easy access to Naples's main tourist spots.

The reception staff were very helpful when we realized we'd booked the wrong date. They were accommodating and still found us a room. Ours was spacious and felt secure. The area had the usual big-city train station atmosphere, with lots of people hanging around later in the evening, but that's not the hotel's fault. I think it was good value, and being near the station and metro was a big plus.

It's only a five-minute walk to Nopoli Central Station. There were a few odd people hanging around near the hotel, so women traveling alone should think carefully about it. Better to go with friends and avoid lingering by the station at night. I emailed the hotel my early morning arrival time in advance, but my train still ran half an hour late. Thanks to the front desk for waiting. The room had two beds and a washbasin, while the toilet and shower were shared outside the room. There weren't many guests, so I didn't have to queue. Towels were provided and changed every two days. Wi-Fi worked well, and the air conditioning cooled the room enough. There was also a small balcony, though you shouldn't hang clothes there because water drips from the flowers upstairs.

The manager was kind, polite, and hospitable, and we had no problems during our stay. The hotel and its building felt secure, with entry by buzzer for both. The bed was comfortable compared with some places we'd stayed in the country. Our room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the shower water was hot, and the air conditioning was so strong we woke up cold a few times. The central station is less than a five-minute walk away. The neighborhood isn't the best, but the hotel can't control that, and we noticed much of Naples was similar, so research the city before visiting. For the price we paid, I'd definitely return. People expecting a five-star hotel for 60 Euro a night may explain some of the bad reviews. It's a great experience if you want a central location at a good price.
