Hotel Antico Residence Roma

Getting to the rooms meant walking outside, even when it was raining, and one room had bars fitted over its window. The hotel itself was filthy, with cobwebs on the ceilings and used toilet paper left in cupboards and dressers. The food was not fit to eat, and very little of the staff could speak English or any language besides Italian. I had a terrible time there.

The rooms are large and the food is simple, with low prices, so it could suit you if that’s what you’re after. It’s hard to find, though, and getting in was a challenge. Being beside a dual carriageway may also mean traffic noise. I think most guests are people working nearby, and the place feels worn down and a bit sad. It seems like it might once have been a great stop on the via Cassia, a day’s ride from Rome, but now only people who have to seem to stay.

I’d stayed here several times before and would have given it three stars, but after this last visit, even one feels like too much. The bathroom stank, the bedroom smelled musty, and there was a serious pest problem. Only half the bathroom lights worked. I didn’t notice the bugs until I used my phone as a light.

The restaurant was expensive for the poor quality, and they kept bringing the wrong dish because they didn’t even have a notebook to write orders down. Cats roam freely around the dining area looking for food, so good luck if you’re allergic. The room signs were bad, the facilities old and in poor shape, and the shower had dampness. Customer service was arrogant and poor. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in.
