Hotel Mare Blue

The hotel is right on the beach, with sunbeds available for €11 and umbrellas for €8. There’s a beach bar next door serving food and drinks throughout the day, a few restaurants nearby, and a small supermarket about a 10 minute walk away. Olbia is easy to reach too: bus number 4 stops three minutes from the hotel, and a 90 minute ticket costs €1.30. Breakfast was a highlight for a small hotel, with fresh, tasty choices that changed daily. The staff were welcoming and smiling, and took great care of everything. We felt at home straight away, and were impressed by how spotlessly clean the place was.

The hotel is just a one minute walk from a beautiful beach, in a sheltered area that seemed to draw mostly people staying nearby. The grounds and surrounding area felt very safe, and I’d recommend it for families with children. We had a relaxing five night stay at Hotel Mare Blue. The breakfast spread was lovely, with plenty of meats, fruit, pastries, and drinks. The staff greeted us with a smile each day and were incredibly kind and helpful. Special thanks to Juan and the breakfast staff. They recommended great local restaurants and activities, and even lent us a charger when we needed one. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday by one of Sardinia’s cleanest and safest beaches. Thanks, Hotel Mare Blue staff, we hope to come back.

The location is what you’re paying for here, and it could hardly be better. There’s a small stretch of beach exclusive to hotel guests, just about as close as you can get to the water. The rooms were clean and comfortable with everything we needed, and breakfast was included with a good variety. Laura and Juan were fantastic, always available and happy to help. It’s not a luxury hotel, but if you want a peaceful, relaxed stay near the beach with good staff and reasonable prices, I wouldn’t hesitate. There’s a supermarket and a handful of restaurants within walking distance, and the bus stop is nearby. Taxis are expensive, about 50-60 euros to the airport, which is 20 minutes away. Buses are available for around 1-2 euros for the same trip. The town is about 20 minutes by car or an hour by bus. Most of the area is about relaxation and enjoying Sardinia’s beauty. The town is nice, but I’d stay by the beach rather than in the city. Sardinia’s views are jaw dropping, and you can hire a boat or book a boat trip. We booked an excursion through the hotel that included a transfer for an extra cost, but we were charged more at the drop off point than we’d been told. We had the same problem with a taxi to the airport, which also cost more than quoted. That’s why it’s four stars from me. Aside from that, it was a great trip and a great hotel. There isn’t much to do nearby beyond the beach, a bakery, a well-rated restaurant and a few beach bars. The beach itself is clean and quiet, only 20 meters away, and you can rent towels and umbrellas at the hotel. The staff were warm and friendly, and even fed the cats around the property, which earned them an extra star from me. Getting around was a problem. Buses are unreliable, the last one to or from Olbia is around 7 PM, and a 15-minute taxi ride costs about €50. Without a car, that’s difficult. Our room felt dark and musty, with daylight only through the terrace door. The furniture was very old, the fridge barely worked and the shower was tiny, though it had decent pressure. We were woken around 8 AM several times by cleaning noises, furniture being dragged and drilling. Water poured from the upper terrace during cleaning and splashed onto ours, soaking our drying clothes more than once. Breakfast was disappointing too. The orange juice was from concentrate, and the pastries didn’t taste fresh. Fine for a budget stay if you keep expectations modest and mainly want to be close to the beach.
