Hotel Ristorante Vecchia Maremma

Andrea, the manager, was nice and helpful, and breakfast the next morning was fine with good coffee. It’s also easy to get back on the highway, handy if you’re on the move. But I can’t recommend this place. It doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel, so I gave it three stars to make the rating more realistic. The first room was dirty, with used towels on the floor and scraps of metal left from what I guess was some work. The lights flickered and the bed sagged. The hallway door shuts behind you, leaving you in a pitch-black tunnel trying to find the light switch. The second room was about the same, but clean. Its shower had no door, so water was bound to get everywhere. The top floor usually gets renovated first, but the hallways made the lower floors look newer. The room faced the highway and train line, and the window did nothing to block the noise. They said there was a private dinner by the pool, so we couldn’t use it at night. They didn’t mention there’d be a party with loud music all night. It was Saturday, and I was nowhere near a town. I’d expected a regular hotel where you could sleep. Andrea could have mentioned what the party would be like. I probably should have read reviews from people who loved the Saturday live music. Apparently I’m the only one looking for the usual things, a decent night’s sleep and a shower. The third room they offered to get me away from the noise also had no working air conditioning. With the window open for air, the music was still a problem. I couldn’t find anyone to fix the AC, the room phone didn’t work, and calls from my mobile failed too, since there was no phone reception or Wi-Fi anywhere in the building. I feel for Andrea, who seems to know what they’re offering isn’t great.
