Hotel Villa Ambra

It's always a pleasure to stay here. The staff are very kind and helpful, the food is great, and the cooking is typical of Tuscany. They also have their own winery.

We paid 200 € per night for two people, and for that price I expected better. The beach is right there, with hotel sunbeds and umbrellas, but there's no pool at this three star hotel. The beach itself was a bit dirty. We didn't know hotel guests had to pay 30 € for an umbrella and two sunbeds, or 40 € for the front row. The same price applies if you book through another provider, and there are plenty of paid umbrellas around Gianella. The sunbed charge itself wasn't what annoyed me, it was paying the same as everyone else despite staying at the hotel. Parking prices were normal, at least. The building was lovely, with newly renovated rooms and pretty balconies shared with other guests. The cleaning was exceptional, I've never seen a floor so clean. Dinner was delicious, with fair a la carte prices and generous dishes, though you need at least two courses to feel full. Breakfast was another matter. The staff were kind and the cappuccino was lovely, but there wasn't much choice, which felt below average for the price. On our last day the ham was stale and smelled bad. That shouldn't happen.

Ambra was a gracious host when we stayed in Positano in the summer of 2022. The villa has gorgeous views over the Tyrrhenian Sea, and there's a herb and vegetable garden at its base with what you need for a good home-cooked meal. It was also very convenient to have access to the garage, and an alimentari nearby for essentials. Be ready for lots of stairs if you want to enjoy Positano, and get in shape before your stay.
