The owner and the people she brings in to help run this place give it its heart. We met real people here, with warmth and kindness in the way they looked after us and our needs. The old-world elegance brings out the better side of people, I think, and we were so sorry to leave. We'll come back as soon as we can. If we hadn't promised to be in Rome, we would have stayed a month. Breakfast was delicious, served in a lovely room painted by a trompe l'oeil artist. Our fellow tango dancers, in town for a festival, enjoyed it too. This is one of those rare hotels that has kept its artistic, cozy charm, unlike the cold, impersonal, colorless decor and management elsewhere. Wonderful.

If you enjoy atmospheric places, this palace is worth experiencing, even though it doesn't offer much technology. The rooms are very clean, and the owner and staff are kind and helpful. Its location is excellent, opposite the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo and just steps from the Duomo. The building was once the palace of Count Bracci. It became a Royal Hotel in the early 1900s and hosted King Umberto I of Savoy of Italy. Parking at the former barracks near the funicular costs €1 per day, with a free shuttle to the city center. It's a chance to step into the past and enjoy beautiful things.

This hotel holds a remarkable collection of Italian art and history, from its furnishings and sculptures to paintings, frescoes, and doors. Staying here feels like a journey through the centuries, with treasures you might not even find in the world's greatest museums. Some people may miss modern comforts like LCD TVs, USB ports, and modern showers and faucets, but it's a unique experience.

The breakfast could be better. It doesn't feel as "royal" as the rest of this very old hotel, which is well maintained for its age. The marble staircases, carpeted hallways, oversized room doors, and the effort to preserve their antique charm all make the place feel like a real step into the past. I also found the small private chapel charming, along with the other rooms and the bar.

I was fascinated by this hotel. It feels a little dated, but it's beautiful and well worth a visit. The owner and the night watchman were the best part: they have plenty of interesting things to tell and some to show you. The hotel is very close to the Duomo, and its location is convenient. You can also get to it easily by car to unload luggage.
