The host, Giulio, made our stay special with his kindness and attention to detail. He was friendly, extremely helpful, and spoke perfect English. His restaurant and historic-site tips were excellent. When the local taxi firm was overbooked, he even drove us to a restaurant at the last minute and picked us up afterwards. A day trip to Bagnoregio is highly recommended. The villa is about a 10-minute drive from Orvieto, so it’s easy to reach town while escaping the hustle and bustle. Its grounds are a working olive grove, with a huge pool, parasols, and loungers beside the trees and a spectacular view of Orvieto perched on the hill. Breakfast came picnic-style each morning on a shaded patio by the pool, with a good choice of breads, cakes, and yoghurt, plus coffee, orange juice, and water. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, simply furnished in keeping with a converted farm villa. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the AC and window nets kept the night comfortable and free of insects and mosquitoes. It was a perfect stay, and we’d definitely return.

The owner was so warm, welcoming, and helpful, and his English is very, very good. Communication was easy, and he made us feel at home. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with a typical Italian spread, tasty jams, and juice. The pool and views were beautiful, and there are restaurants nearby. Orvieto itself is quaint and lovely, with plenty to see and places to eat. The location worked perfectly for us, between Rome and Florence and close to all the beautiful towns in Tuscany and Umbria. There’s a kitchen and plenty of room for a family. I can’t wait to come back with mine. My boys would love it.

Our family still smiles thinking about the Villa. We stayed there in March 2015, and the welcome was so warm. Everything we needed was provided, and we felt completely at home in this beautiful, historic house. The countryside and Orvieto views were even better than the pictures, and the Villa gave us the peaceful, relaxing time we could only have hoped for. We drove there after staying in Florence and enjoyed as much of the Orvieto area as we could, then returned the car and took the train to Rome. Florence was wonderful, and we really enjoyed hiking Cinque Terre. Rome was a great city, full of sights and experiences. Still, the Villa was where we truly relaxed and felt we were taking in the heart of Italy. We’d love to go back and experience more of it. I close my eyes and think of that stay, and I relax and smile.

The apartments have been recently redone and are wonderful. The general manager is there to make sure breakfast comes with fresh pastry in the morning and cocktails are available in the afternoon. You can look out from beside the pool to the Duomo, with olive trees all around the restored farm villa. It’s a special place in Umbria, with a great view of Orvieto and easy access to town. The whole stay was exceptional. We only wish we’d booked more time, but we’ll return and recommend it.

We had a great time. Our villa was roomy and comfortable, and Giulio was very kind and helpful. Amazing stay.
